Activities at Karen Blixen Camp

Guests staying at Karen Blixen Camp can enjoy exploring the Masai Mara region while on game drives, bush walks, and hot air balloon safaris during their Kenya Masai Mara safari.

Masai Mara Game drives

Karen Blixen Camp’s knowledgeable guides conduct game drives in the Mara North Conservancy where there are limited other tourists and plentiful wildlife. These are conducted in specially adapted safari vehicles. Explore the region on morning, afternoon, full day or night game drives. Visit Leopard Gorge which is home to many Lion, Cheetah and Leopard and is famous as the spot where the BBC’s Big Cat Diary is filmed.

Masai Mara Game Walks

There can be no more primal experience than discovering the plains of the Mara on foot. Game walks allow you to feel how vast the Mara ecosystem is. Scramble up giant termite mounds and track plains game such as Wildebeest, Zebra, Topis and Gazelles on foot. Learn about their behaviour from your Maasai guide who is armed. Large dangerous animals such as the Big Five (Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard) are not approached.

Masai Mara Hot Air Balloon Safari

A balloon safari is perhaps one of the most thrilling ways to experience the beauty of the African savannah and experience game viewing from a bird’s eye perspective. Feel the rush as the balloon silently lifts off the ground and you set off above the Acacias. After an hour cruising above the plains, land and enjoy a champagne breakfast in the middle of the bush.

Wellness Treatments

Karen Blixen Camp offers a range of wellness treatments. Imagine being pampered with a massage while listening to the sounds of the rich birdlife in the area. Therapies include facials, deep tissue massages and a number of different massages.

Maasai Community Visits

Meet one of Kenya’s most iconic tribes the Maasai. These people are pastoralists who still practice a traditional way of life. Visit the local Manyatta (village) and learn about their way of life and customs. All fees for this activity directly support the villagers. Guests can also visit the local community school.

Bush Weddings

Celebrate your union surrounded by the rolling plains of the Mara. The bridal party can be pampered with wellness and beauty treatments before dressing for the wedding. Then drive out onto the savannahs where the groom and his party will be waiting. After the ceremony you can savour a delicious romantic wedding dinner back at the restaurant.
