Safari Activities at Saruni Samburu

Saruni Samburu offers a number of diversions during a Kenya safari holiday from game drives, to bush walks and massages, there is something for everyone.

Game Drives

Game drives at Saruni Samburu are conducted in comfortable fully-open Land Rovers which are designed to provide maximum game viewing. Drives take place in the Kalama Conservancy and the Samburu National Reserve. The drives are conducted by a professional guide and tracker who will reveal the secrets of life in the bush. The guides take time allowing you to watch how animals interact during your safari holiday in Kenya.

The game drives head out in the early morning and late afternoon which is when the animals are most active and are easily seen. However, the guides also know the spots along the River where lots of wildlife spends time during the day. See herds of Elephants, Waterbuck and Impala or a pride of Lion lazing in the shade.

Night Game Drives

Night game drives are conducted with the aid of a spotlight on the Kalama Conservancy. This is a chance to see many of the species which are active during the cooler night hours such as Stripped Hyena and Leopard on the prowl. You can also see birds such as many owls during night game drives.

Bush Walks

A game walk in the Kalama Conservancy is always a rewarding experience as you can feel the plants and closely follow the tracks of animals with the help of the tracker. They will tell you how they use the berries and the leaves in their traditional way of life in the African bush.

The guides are all avid birders and these walks are often very rewarding in terms of avian sightings. Many different species occur within the park. There are also some ancient Samburu Rock art paintings in caves not far from the lodge. You can go on a nature walk to view these fascinating paintings.

Cultural Excursions

A true highlight during East African safaris is the cultural interaction and while staying at Saruni Samburu you can visit a genuine Samburu Village. They own the land that makes up the conservancy. See how they live and learn why they protect the land. Catch a glimpse into their daily lives and learn how they are different from other African tribes.

Wellness Treatments

The Samburu Wellbeing Space is a secluded retreat where guests can enjoy a number of massages and wellness treatments that combine western techniques with local Samburu knowledge of local plants such as Aloe. The loge offers all guests a complimentary back and neck massage. Facials, manicures, pedicures, sport massages and more are all offered in a tranquil room that has views of the reserve below.

Weddings at Saruni Samburu

Saruni Samburu Lodge offers traditional Samburu wedding ceremonies. The wedding ceremony takes place in the traditional Samburu village and is led by the village elders. The women and the warriors also take part in the ceremony to create a truly memorable wedding day.
