Getting to Rusinga Island Lodge, Lake Victoria

Rusinga Lodge is situated on the secluded shores of Lake Victoria. This lodge in Kenya is located close to an interesting archaeological dig and great birding spots.

Rusinga Island Lodge is situated on Rusinga Island in Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest freshwater lake. This remote destination was the haunt of many 19th centaury explorers and to this day it is still a remote and untamed corner of Africa.

Getting to Rusinga Island Lodge

By Air

The easiest way to get to the island is by plane. There are a number of daily scheduled flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Kisumu. It is a 20 minute charter flight from Kisumu or a 35 minute flight from the teeming savannahs of the Masai Mara. The flight from the country’s capital Nairobi takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. The airstrip is located on the island, just a short stroll away from the lodge.

By Road and Boat

There are a number of daily scheduled flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Kisumu. Someone will meet you at the airport and then drive you to the lake. The journey takes 3 hours and passes through some impressive countryside. At the lake you will catch a ferry to the lodge which takes about 45 minutes.
