Come discover the beauty of Africa on this 13 Day Highlights of Kenya and Tanzania Deluxe Safari which allows you to enjoy an East African safari holiday. Your safari starts on Laikipia Plateau, an area that lies between Mount Kenya and the northern deserts of Kenya. A wonderful area to explore without the crowds.

Then onto visit the Masai Mara and enjoy being in the heart of one of the most game rich areas in Africa, here there is always a variety of resident wildlife in a background of spectacular scenery. Move on to the Serengeti where the grasslands are filled with large herds of plains game, being followed by cheetah and lions. Look for leopard up in the branches of the riverine forest, luxuriating in the dappled sunlight.

Then finally onto one of Africa’s great lakes, Lake Victoria. Stay on an exclusive island; home for the shy sitatunga antelope and a refuge for threatened chimpanzees.

Day 1: Laikipia Plateau - Kenya

On the first morning on your East African safari, leave the bustling city behind and travel by air to the highland plateau of Laikipia.The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is sustained by the Ewaso Ng'iro River and supports a variety of wildlife - keep a lookout for the long necked Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx while on a game drive in the late afternoon. Spend a comfortable night in your luxury Kenya safari accommodation.

Day 2: Rhinos and Other Endangered Animals

Wake up early to watch the new day dawn, head out on a game drive and look for some of the 100 black rhino in the gnarled acacia forest, or the rare Grevy’s zebra on the scrubby grassy plains. The big five can be found here too. Importantly, the wild animals live and graze alongside the world’s largest herd of Boran cattle, pioneering a mutually beneficial land management system, giving you a unique and varied safari experience.

Day 3: Bush Walks and Night Drives

This morning get close to the bush and it’s wildlife on an early morning guided bush walk. Learn about the birds, ecology, insects and interpret the tracks of the wildlife and identify the different spoor.

See the last of the Northern White rhino in the world, visit their enclosure and learn from their keepers about the efforts to preserve the last of this highly endangered species. Or take an optional excursion to spend time with the researchers in the conservancy, learning about and tracking the lions that live there.

As the sun descends go on a night drive, the guide uses a powerful spotlight to track the nocturnal species so you can discover the magic of Kenya’s nightlife in the bush.

Day 4: Masai Mara National Reserve - Kenya

Today, after breakfast, you’ll take your final game drive on Laikipia en route to the airstrip, and then fly to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and drive you to your luxury camp perched above the Talek River, a prime position for the great migration river crossings. The camp has sweeping views across the plains, which supports high concentrations and diversity of Africa’s wildlife. The iconic Masai Mara is superb for year-round game viewing.

Day 6: Meet Some Maasai in the Mara

Explore the Masai Mara in the expert company of Il Dorobo and Maasai guides. The wildlife and bird watching game drives can be tailored to specific needs and interests for some outstanding game viewing. As an optional excursion, you can visit a nearby Maasai village and share the cultural aspect of the traditional Maasai’s way of life.

Day 5: Adventure in the Mara

On this day of your East African safari, you can opt to start the day with an amazing early morning hot air balloon ride over the savannah. Or set out on an early morning horse ride to see the abundant wildlife that calls the Mara home. Later set out for an afternoon drive and enjoy the diversity of scenery and wildlife that the Masai Mara has to offer.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park - Tanzania

Wake up early, go for a sunrise game drive, and back to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, head towards the airstrip, where you will board a chartered flight to the Kenyan-Tanzanian border. From here, you will do a short scenic drive crossing the border into Tanzania to board an onward flight into the Serengeti. A guide will meet you and drive you to your new camp in time for a late lunch. After which you may go on a game drive and start exploring the Serengeti.

Day 8: Travel the Plains

Today the game drives will take you further afield in the Serengeti. Due to the abundance of plains game, the Serengeti is believed to be home to the largest Lion population in Africa and you are likely to see many of these big cats as well as other predators.

Day 9: Exploration and Exhilaration

In the morning you have the optional extra opportunity of taking to the air and doing your game viewing with a bird's eye view of the dramas playing out down below during an early morning hot air balloon safari or experience the thrill of walking among the wildlife during a morning bush walk.

Otherwise set out to explore the region on morning and afternoon game drives. Whether you are looking for adventure and excitement or quiet contemplation and rest, your Serengeti camp has it in abundance.

Day 10: Rubondo Island National Park/ Lake Victoria

This morning it is time to say goodbye to the Serengeti plains and hello to the beach wilderness on Lake Victoria. This is a truly wild area, where elephants roam and butterflies flit through the indigenous rainforest. After a short flight, you land on the largest island National Park in the world - Rubondo Island.

A guide will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to your new camp on the lake shore of Lake Victoria. Here you will spend the next three nights with plenty of time to explore the water and forest. Surrounded by beaches and rocky coves this forested island offers some of the most untouched wilderness in Africa.

Day 11 & 12: Chimpanzees, Forests and Water

You can spend the next two full days exploring this untouched wilderness. For the adventurous and active your days can be spent on guided forest walks and a guided chimpanzee experience through the chimp environment. The chimps are being habituated to humans presence, but this is a work in progress at the moment.

Or you can go on game drives through the forest, driving through the ancient giant trees which seem to dwarf the giraffes, elephants and bushbuck that live in the forest. Near to the lakeshore, you can go on a swamp excursion searching for the shy and elusive sitatunga antelope which hides in the papyrus swamp along with the crocodiles and hippos. You can also explore the area on the water with a boating safari or by kayak.

As an optional extra there is also world class boat based fishing opportunities.

Day 13: Arusha

On the final day of your East Africa Safari, enjoy a delicious breakfast outside on the deck overlooking the lake before a short ride to the airstrip. Here you will board a flight to Arusha Airport for your onward travel arrangements.
