The Experience

Nairobi was founded by the British colonial authorities, British East Africa, in 1899 as a railway depot between the coast and Kampala in Uganda. The local Maasai tribe called the area Enkare Nairobi, which means "cool waters", which is also the Maasai name for the Nairobi River, which is how the city was named. After independence in 1963, Nairobi became the Republic of Kenya’s capital. It is an established hub for culture and business.

Nairobi is a mix of skyscrapers and financial institutions, sprawling suburbs and slums on the outskirts. The city is a melting pot of different cultures, with a strong Indian influence. The city is home to between 2 and 3 million people.
