Kipungani Explorer is situated on the edge of Kipungani Bay on the south-western tip of Lamu Island. This Kenya resort is situated on the edge of a long sandy white beach overlooking the Indian Ocean. Lamu Island is one of the main islands in the Lamu Archipelago which is a tropical paradise situated just off the East African Coast.
The town of Lamu is a World Heritage site as it is one of the last strongholds of the vibrant Swahili culture and architecture. There are no roads on the island so most people get around on foot, on donkeys or by boat. The islands fortunes were built on the slave trade and it was a vibrant melting pot of different cultures such as the local tribes, Arabs, Portuguese and Europeans. This means that a beach holiday on Lamu is like stepping back in time.
The nearest airstrip is located on Manda Island which is a 90 minutes flight from Nairobi. It is just a short boat ride across to the lodge from Manda Island. There are daily flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Malindi Airport and Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
